This is how the dream of one man became a worldwide mission ...
The pioneering age
Chemist Giacomo Chiesi has a dream: to improve health care through independent and innovative research. In pursuit of this dream, he purchases the Laboratorio Farmaceutico Parmense. Approximately five years later, he is already exporting medicines to Eritrea and Austria.
After a temporary interruption caused by the Second World War, he takes on his first employee. And in 1955, he builds a real factory where 50 employees manufactured an extensive range of medications.
Industrialization
In 1965, Giacomo hands the torch to his sons Alberto and Paolo, who remain the directors of Chiesi today. They build up the company and in the late 1970s, they open the first office abroad in Brazil.
Internationalisation and the third Chiesi generation
Since then, Chiesi has developed a rich range of innovative and successful therapies. Further international expansion has resulted, in Europe, as well as further afield.
However, at heart Chiesi remains a family company: since the start of the new millennium, the third generation has also made its mark. With the pioneering spirit that is unique to the family, they have delved into new areas of research, ensuring an innovative future for Chiesi.
